Eight Pakistani soldiers were killed, and seven police officers were kidnapped in two separate attacks in the volatile northwest region of the country, officials confirmed to AFP on Tuesday.

In the first incident, a fierce clash on Monday led to the deaths of eight soldiers and nine militants, according to an intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity. The Pakistani Taliban, also known as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a separate assault, seven police officers were abducted from their post in the same region, said a senior police official, also speaking anonymously. The police personnel were reportedly seized by armed militants, though no group has yet claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

These incidents underscore the growing instability in the region, where the Pakistani Taliban and other insurgent groups have intensified their attacks in recent months.
