Former US President Donald Trump

Former US President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened to deploy American forces to Nigeria, claiming the country’s government has failed to stop what he described as the killing of Christians by Islamist militants.

In a fiery post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he had asked the Pentagon to prepare a possible plan of attack, a day after warning that Christianity was “facing an existential threat in Nigeria.”

“If the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the United States will immediately halt all aid and assistance to Nigeria and may go in ‘guns-a-blazing’ to eliminate the Islamic terrorists responsible for these atrocities,” he wrote.

He further claimed to have instructed the “Department of War” to get ready for potential action, saying any strike would be “fast, vicious, and sweet.” His post ended with a stark warning: “The Nigerian government better move fast!”

Nigeria continues to face multiple violent conflicts, with experts noting that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of attacks.

Trump’s comments followed another post on Friday in which he alleged, without evidence, that “thousands of Christians are being killed” by radical Islamists.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, is nearly evenly split between a Muslim-majority north and a largely Christian south, and religious tensions have long influenced its politics and security landscape.
