Six children drowned in four upazilas of Noakhali in a day. The incidents took place in Kabirhat, Subarnachar, Companyganj and Hatia upazila on Wednesday (July 5).
The deceased were known as Rishad (9) and Rishan (7) sons of Abu Naser of Rameshwarpur village of Chaprashirhat union of Kabirhat upazila, Riya Begum (9), Mohammad Hossain’s daughter and Salauddin’s daughter Nasrin Akhtar (11) of Char Baishakhi village of Charwapda union of Subarnachar upazila, Niha (5) daughter of Nizam Uddin of Lamchhari village of Sukhchar union of Hatia upazila and Abu Bakkar (3), son of Akter Hossain of Gangchil village under Companyganj upazila.
With this, some nine children drowned in the district in the last three days.
Didar ul Alam, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kabirhat Police Station said, “Rishad and Rishan were playing near a pond in the afternoon. Suddenly, Rishad slipped and fell into the pond, younger brother Rishan went to pick him up. Later he also fell into the water and drowned. They were immediately rescued and taken to the Upazila Health Complex where doctors on duty declared them dead.
Hatia police station sub-inspector (SI) Zahirul Islam said, “Niha fell into a pond while playing in the absence of her family members. After searching for a long time, the family members found him floating in the water of the pond and reported the matter to police. Later she was rescued and taken to the hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Riya Begum and her cousin Nasrin Akhtar of Char Baisakhi village of Subarnachar Upazila fell into a pond. None of them knew how to swim. After searching for a time, the family members rescued them unconscious from the pond and took them to Noakhali General Hospital, where doctors on duty declared them dead.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Charjabbar Police Station Abdul Wares said, “Police have been sent to the spot after receiving the news. An unnatural death (UD) case will be filed in this regard.”
Chairman of Char Elahi Union Parishad (UP) of Companyganj Abdur Razzak said, “Abu Bakkar, son of Akter Hossain of Gangchil village, fell into water and died.”
