BGB seizes goods worth Tk 1.28 crore in five border operations
The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods, narcotics and other contraband worth at least Tk 1.28 crore in five separate drives along the frontiers, while preventing an attempt to smuggle Bangladeshi jute into India.
In separate operations, Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) seized Indian liquor, syrup, 1,394 yaba tablets, 500 grams of cannabis and 990 pieces of medicine worth Tk 8,45,950 from border areas of Maheshpur upazila in Jhenaidah.
Meanwhile, Sarail Battalion (25 BGB) recovered 10,055 yaba tablets near Chanpur in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria at around 6:30am. The tablets were abandoned by a suspected smuggler who fled when challenged by a BGB patrol team.
Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) seized Indian sarees, olive oil, baby lotion, chocolates, energy drinks, basmati rice, cattle, cannabis, cough syrup and an easy-bike in separate operations in border areas of Brahmanbaria and Cumilla. The seized goods are estimated cost to be at Tk 50, 59,920.
In another drive, Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) seized Indian cattle, buffaloes, mobile phone displays, lehengas, blankets, cosmetics, chocolates, cumin and juice worth Tk 68,68,860 from several border areas in Sylhet.
Meanwhile, Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB) seized six maunds of Bangladeshi jute and a bicycle from Kalshipara in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat at around 3am while smugglers were attempting to smuggle the goods into India. The smugglers fled, leaving the goods behind, reports BSS.
Drives based on intelligence surveillance would continue to maintain border security and prevent smuggling and drug trafficking, the BGB added.
