BGB seizes Indian mobile phone displays worth Tk 4.40 cr in B'baria
The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 5,005 Indian mobile phone displays worth about Tk 4.40 crore from a Kamalmonora forest area near the Bangladesh-India border in Bijoynagar upazila here on Friday.
BGB-25 Battalion Commander Lt Col Jabbar Ahmed disclosed the information at a press briefing at the battalion headquarters here today.
He said acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of Mukundapur Border Outpost (BOP) conducted a special operation from border pillar No. 2008/1-S to about 300 yards inside Bangladesh territory in the Kamalmonora area.
During the operation, the BGB team recovered 5,005 Indian smartphone displays, which had been kept hidden inside a forest.
He said the estimated market value of the seized displays is Tk 4 crore 40 lakh.
Legal action and handing over the goods to Akhaura Customs is underway, he added.
The BGB commander said BGB personnel remain vigilant to prevent smuggling of fuel oil and fertilisers through the border, reports BSS.
