Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, emphasized the urgent need for enhanced regional collaboration to tackle the detrimental effects of climate change. Speaking at the "Annual Community of Practice (COP) Network Convention," she underscored the significance of timely information sharing about rainfall, structural integrity, and water resources between upstream and downstream countries.

"Both upstream and downstream nations must unite to facilitate effective communication and cooperation," Rizwana stated.

The convention, hosted by the Manusher Jonno Foundation under its 'EmPower: Women for Climate Resilient Societies' initiative, took place at BRAC Centre Inn in Dhaka. Rizwana highlighted the government's proactive measures to mitigate food shortages during natural disasters and called for collective international efforts to achieve zero carbon emissions, alongside securing funding from the Loss and Damage Fund.

She also pointed out that women bear the brunt of climate change impacts, pledging to ensure their active involvement in the National Adaptation Plan.

The event was presided over by Shaheen Anam, Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation, and featured insights from Maria Stridsman, Head of Development Cooperation at the Embassy of Sweden in Bangladesh, and Gitanjali Singh, Country Representative for UN Women.

A highlight of the convention was the launch of the 'Women's Climate Action Network' and the presentation of the 'Women's Role in Combating Climate Change Award 2024' to five outstanding female entrepreneurs.

Participants engaged in fruitful discussions on strategies to elevate women's leadership and participation in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts. The event also included various panel discussions, workshops, and presentations focused on women's empowerment, climate resilience, and gender equality.
