Bangladesh Collapses Early Against India in Champions Trophy 2025
Bangladesh are in deep trouble in their opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy against India in Dubai, losing five wickets within the first nine overs of their innings.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh’s top order failed to deliver. Three of the top five batters were dismissed for single-digit scores, with two falling for ducks.
The collapse began early, with Soumya Sarkar dismissed for a duck in the first over. The left-hander attempted a drive to mid-off but inside-edged it to the Indian wicketkeeper off Mohammad Shami. In the next over, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also fell for a duck, failing to connect with an out-swinger from Harshit Rana after facing just two balls.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim also struggled, with Miraz scoring just 5 and Mushfiqur departing for a first-ball duck. Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim was the only batter to make some progress, contributing 25 runs.
By the end of the 19th over, Bangladesh were 70 for five, with Jaker Ali (20*) and Towhid Hridoy (18*) holding the fort.
Mohammad Shami and Axar Patel were the standout bowlers for India, each picking up two wickets. Axar's wickets came in quick succession in the 9th over, where he dismissed Tanzid and Mushfiqur in consecutive deliveries.
