Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong has pledged full cooperation to support Bangladesh’s economic prosperity during a meeting with Bangladesh Ambassador Md Nazmul Islam on Thursday at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both officials emphasized their countries' commitment to deepening ties, particularly through people-to-people exchanges. Sun highlighted the need for more collaborations in tourism, education, academia, think tanks, and local governance, especially in the year of people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership ahead of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, with a focus on enhancing exchanges in multiple sectors.

During Ambassador Islam's first courtesy call on Vice Minister Weidong, they discussed ways to expand cooperation, particularly in new areas, while reaffirming mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and peaceful coexistence. Both countries agreed that high-level visits and exchanges would further energize their bilateral mechanisms.

Ambassador Islam also invited Chinese investors to explore opportunities in Bangladesh, particularly in the upcoming Bangladesh Investment Summit, scheduled for April 7-10 in Dhaka.

In addition, the two countries pledged to collaborate in multilateral forums, especially within the United Nations system, to ensure that the benefits of multilateralism reach all, particularly developing nations.

To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Bangladesh and China will jointly launch programs such as a commemorative logo, recognition of individuals who contributed to strengthening ties, and the promotion of medical tourism. As part of ongoing initiatives, three hospitals in Kunming have been designated to treat Bangladeshi patients, with an additional hospital for cancer treatment being added.
