At least 40 people were killed in mob violence over the past two months, while 601 cases of violence against women and children were documented during the same period, according to a report by the Manabadhikar Shongskriti Foundation (MSF).

In its monthly monitoring report for April 2026, released on 30 April, the organisation said incidents of violence against women and children increased from 289 in March to 312 in April.

The report showed that mob violence also rose during this period. Nineteen people were killed in March, while 21 more were killed in April, bringing the two-month total to 40. Injuries increased from 31 in March to 49 in April, reaching 80 in total.

MSF said the continued pattern of mob-related violence, along with rising abuse against women and children, is becoming a serious concern for public safety and law and order.

Political violence also remained high, with 390 people injured in March and 303 in April, bringing the total to 693 injuries over two months.

MSF Secretary Saidur Rahman expressed concern over the situation, saying that mob violence cannot coexist with proper governance and urged authorities to take stronger legal action to control such incidents.

He also called for more effective steps from law enforcement agencies and the home authorities to ensure better protection for women and stricter enforcement of laws.

The report further noted a rise in attacks and harassment against journalists, increasing from 30 cases in March to 46 in April. Legal harassment also went up slightly, with one journalist arrested during April.

On cyber-related cases, the report said seven cases were filed under the Cyber Security Act during March and April, involving 33 individuals and leading to five arrests.

MSF warned that the growing tendency of mob justice and rising violence against vulnerable groups is creating serious pressure on the country’s law and order situation.
