Hira murder case: Fugitive death-row convict arrested in Pabna

RAB has arrested a fugitive convict, who had been sentenced to death, in a case filed over the murder of Raihan Chowdhury Hira in Pabna in 2008.



Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive convict, who had been sentenced to death, in a case filed over the murder of Raihan Chowdhury Hira in Pabna in 2008.
The arrestee is Mizanur Rahman alias Mizan, 45, son of Korim Box from Poilanpur area under Pabna municipality.
He was arrested around 10:30 pm on Friday (April 7).
RAB-12 Pabna Camp Company Commander Squadron Leader Towhidul Mobin Khan said, acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force in a raid arrested Mizan from his house at Bahadurpur village under Pabna Sadar upazila.
According to the case statement, some miscreants hacked Raihan Chowdhury Hira to death on May 28, 2008. Later, the victim’s father filed a case accusing nine people over the matter.
On February 9, 2021, Pabna Additional District and Session Judges Court Judge Shyam Sundar Roy sentenced two people to death and three others to life term imprisonment in a case filed over the murder of Raihan Chowdhury Hira in 2008.
The court also fined each of the convicts Tk 20,000.
Among the convicts Mizanur Rahman Mizan and his son Tushar Rahman were awarded death penalty while Masum Hossain, Arshed Ali and Mishu Hossain were sentenced to life term jail. The court also acquitted four others who were accused in the case.
During the delivery of the verdict, only two of those convicted were present in the court while rest was on the run.
