Housewife slaughtered in Jhenaidah

A housewife was hacked to death reportedly by neighbor for refusing an immoral proposal of him at Sadar upazila in Jhenaidah early Saturday.

The incident took place at around 5.00am in Rajapur village under the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Ojola Khatun, wife of Shariful Islam, a resident of the aforesaid village.

According to the deceased's family members, Ojola went out of her house to go to bathroom. At that time, a neighbor one Abdul Karim stopped Ojola and gave her a immoral proposal. When she protested and tried escape from there, Abdul Karim hacked the victim with a sharp weapon and slaughtered her to death.

Locals hindered the accused  and took him to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital as he also got stabbed wounds by the victim when she tried defend herself.

Being informed, police recovered the body of the housewife and kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

"The killing might have occurred due to extramarital affair and investigation is underway in this regard," police said.

Police took the victim's husband and her son in police custody for questioning and the actual reason behind the killing would be known after investigation, police officials added.
