Youth beaten to death by mob for trying to steal phone

A young man was killed and another seriously injured after being beaten by locals while attempting to snatch a mobile phone in Mohammadpur, Dhaka on Monday.


The incident occurred around 3:10 pm at the end of Block-E, Road No-12, Chandrima Model Town.

Yamin, 23, son of Mahbub Mia, was from Charskina village under Lalmohan Police Station in Bhola district and lived in Dhaka Udyan area.

He was declared dead after being taken to the hospital.

The other one, currently undergoing treatment, was identified as Fahim, 23.

Police said that local residents caught the two unidentified snatchers during the attempted robbery and gave them a mob beating and they were later rescued by police and admitted to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College & Hospital, reports UNB. 

A K M Mehedi Hasan, Assistant Police Commissioner of Mohammadpur Zone, Tejgaon Division, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The mobile phone of the victim has been recovered. Mohammadpur Police are preparing two separate cases regarding the incident.”
