The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell apprehended the suspect from Botiaghata area in Khulna on Monday afternoon, confirmed Additional Superintendent of Police Imran Zakaria.
According to police, Tanvir left a note at the crime scene claiming, “I killed him because he insulted Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Allahu Akbar,” apparently to mislead the investigation.
Police investigations revealed that Toaz and Tanvir had known each other since 2022. Tanvir developed a sexual relationship with Toaz, who was unmarried. Tanvir frequently visited Toaz’s home in Dhaka and his native village.
On September 1, an argument between Toaz and Tanvir in Keshabpur village escalated when Toaz allegedly sexually assaulted the suspect while he was asleep. In anger, Tanvir repeatedly hit Toaz on the head with a stone, killing him. The body was discovered by neighbors three days later, on September 3, after a foul smell emerged from the house.
During interrogation, Tanvir admitted to tying Toaz’s legs, taking his mobile phone, locking it, and throwing the key into a nearby pond.
Local residents said they were unaware of Toaz’s sexual orientation, noting that students often visited his home as he provided financial support. The arrest of Tanvir revealed the motive behind the businessman’s murder.
Jhenaidah Additional SP Imran Zakaria said the case initially lacked a clear motive. The victim’s brother, Akkach Ali, filed the case, and the DB Cyber Crime Investigation Cell monitored the case closely to identify and apprehend the suspect, reports UNB.
