In a bid to bolster Bangladesh’s diplomatic and economic engagement with Africa, Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin held a virtual meeting with Bangladesh’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners across the continent on Thursday. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation and tapping into Africa’s emerging markets and vast natural resources.

Foreign Secretary Uddin emphasized Africa’s growing importance in Bangladesh’s foreign policy, highlighting opportunities in trade, investment, and economic collaboration. A key area of focus was agricultural cooperation, particularly in contract farming, where Bangladesh could engage in mutually beneficial partnerships with African nations.

Uddin encouraged the heads of missions to explore new areas of cooperation, especially in sectors such as agriculture, and to prioritize consular services for the large Bangladeshi expatriate community across Africa.

During the meeting, mission heads provided updates on their ongoing initiatives, discussed challenges, and shared insights into their host countries' priorities for collaboration with Bangladesh. The session was attended by Additional Foreign Secretary Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Director General (Africa) B M Jamal Hossain, Director General (Administration) Mohammad Nazmul Haque, and Bangladesh’s Heads of Missions in Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa.
