Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus
At a media briefing earlier today, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam highlighted that the Chief Adviser’s participation offers a unique opportunity for Bangladesh to share its perspectives on global challenges and pressing international issues.
"The Honorable Chief Adviser will engage with global leaders and experts, showcasing Bangladesh's views and contributing to ongoing international discussions," Alam stated. "In addition, he is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with heads of state and government on the summit's sidelines."
Alam, who also serves as the Director General of the Public Diplomacy Wing, noted that the Chief Adviser is likely to engage in courtesy meetings with prominent political and business figures attending the summit.
The invitation for Dr. Yunus to attend the event was extended personally by His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, on January 13, 2025. The Chief Adviser has since confirmed his attendance.
Established in 2013 under the leadership of His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the World Governments Summit serves as a premier global platform for exchanging innovative government practices and fostering cooperation between nations. Over the years, it has brought together policymakers, thought leaders, and representatives from more than 140 countries to explore solutions for a better future.
This year’s summit will continue its mission to strengthen partnerships between governments and encourage dialogue that fosters global collaboration. "The summit will aim to create meaningful connections between governments and their citizens while addressing the evolving needs of the global community," Alam added.
Bangladesh and the UAE share a deep-rooted, friendly relationship, underpinned by strong economic ties and shared political interests. A significant number of Bangladeshi expatriates contribute to the UAE’s economy through remittances, while trade between the two countries has flourished, particularly in textiles, agricultural products, and energy sectors.
