
The meeting was held at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office and lasted for about an hour.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Joint Secretary General Humayun Kabir, Acting Chairman’s Adviser Mahadi Amin and Press Secretary Saleh Shibly were present at the meeting.
This was the first meeting between the Chinese Ambassador and the BNP Acting Chairman.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, BNP Joint Secretary General Humayun Kabir said the discussion was held in a very cordial atmosphere.
He said Tarique described China as an important development partner of Bangladesh and shared BNP’s future development plans and ideas on rebuilding the country.
“They discussed how China can further support Bangladesh’s development,” the BNP leader said.
Replying to a question, Humayun said the Chinese envoy expressed readiness to work with the next elected government of Bangladesh.

“They have taken the role of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman very seriously and expressed hope that he will provide leadership to the country as the next elected Prime Minister,” he said.
Humayun also said the Chinese Ambassador personally expressed condolences over the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
“At the beginning of the meeting, the Ambassador conveyed condolences on behalf of his country,” he said.
He said on the day Begum Khaleda Zia passed away, China’s Prime Minister conveyed condolences to Bangladesh’s President early in the morning, reports UNB.
