Khulna, Nov 15 -At least 10 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out in a godown of jute sacks in Borobazar Barmashil area of Khulna city, said authorities on Friday morning.

The fire broke out in the warehouse around 11pm on Thursday.

It was brought under control after nearly one and half hours of efforts, said Faruk Hossain Shikdar, assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) in Khulna.

Businessmen said the fire erupted from the godown named M/S Ahsan Ullah of the Barmashil area and engulfed fast nine other adjoining shops.

They assumed that the electric short-circuits caused the fire which resulted in damages of crores of taka.

On information, seven firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 12:30am, said the fire service official.

The extent of damage caused by the fire and the reason behind the incident couldn’t be ascertained immediately, said Faruk Hossain. - UNB
