Dhaka, Feb 21 - The Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday shut down the JS Diagnostic and Medical Check-up Centre in Dhaka’s Malibagh Chowdhurypara, following the death of a child allegedly due to negligence.

The child, Ahnaf Tahmin Ayman, was undergoing circumcision at the centre on Tuesday when he died. Following the incident, Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen on Wednesday morning ordered the immediate closure of the diagnostic centre.

Police have already arrested a director and an anesthesiologist of the diagnostic centre based on a complaint filed by Ahnaf's father. The health minister will hold an emergency meeting with all parties concerned at the ministry on Sunday (February 25) regarding the matter.

In a statement, the health minister expressed his deep sorrow at the incident. He said that similar incidents had occurred in the past and stern action had been taken against the perpetrators. He warned that any negligence or dereliction of duty in the future would not be tolerated.

Sen also said that if the JS Diagnostic Centre is found guilty, strict action would be taken against it. He added that those responsible for the negligence will also be punished severely.

The minister also commented on another incident that took place at LabAid Hospital in Dhaka, where a patient died after undergoing endoscopy. He said that the health officials had inspected the hospital on Tuesday and the report would be available on Thursday. Further action would be taken based on the report. - UNB
