Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin has called on Japanese entrepreneurs and business leaders to significantly increase their investments in Bangladesh. His appeal came during his keynote address at the ‘Investment Promotion’ seminar, held at a hotel in Tokyo this morning.

In his speech, Bashir assured Japanese investors of full support and cooperation from the Bangladeshi government, emphasizing that Japan is Bangladesh's most trusted partner and the largest individual development ally.

Expressing his gratitude to the Japanese government, Bashir acknowledged its continuous contributions to Bangladesh’s development and stressed the importance of deepening bilateral economic ties.

The seminar also featured a presentation by Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), who highlighted the vast investment opportunities in Bangladesh. A panel discussion titled “Investment Potentials in Post-Reform Bangladesh” included insightful contributions from Nahian Rahman Rochi, Head of Business Development at BIDA, and Yuji Ando, Representative of JETRO in Bangladesh.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Japan Md. Daud Ali, Senior Vice President of JICA Sachiko Imoto, and Senior Vice President of JETRO Kazuya Nakajo, who all emphasized strengthening economic cooperation between the two nations.

The seminar was jointly organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). Over 100 Japanese business leaders attended the event, signaling strong interest in Bangladesh’s growing investment climate.

Later in the day, Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin met with Ogushi Masaki, Japan’s State Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry. The two leaders discussed the future of bilateral trade, investment, and the potential for a comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). Bashir urged the Japanese government to encourage more Japanese companies to explore the favorable investment environment in Bangladesh, especially following the launch of the Bangladesh Single Window (BSW), which facilitates faster and more efficient services for investors.

In response, the Japanese State Minister expressed his commitment to expediting the EPA process and enhancing trade relations with Bangladesh. Both parties reaffirmed their mutual intent to deepen economic ties and explore new avenues for collaboration.

The meeting also included Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Md. Daud Ali, senior officials from JICA and JETRO, and representatives from the Bangladesh Embassy, Bangladesh Bank, NBR, and Commercial Counselor in Tokyo.

The visit underscored the growing importance of Japan-Bangladesh economic relations, with both nations eager to expand their partnership for mutual growth and prosperity.
