Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) organised a 5-day training program titled “Rules and Procedures for Import and Export for officials of Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority" (BEPZA) on Sunday in the city.
President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md. Mahbubul Alam inaugurated the training event at the BFTI office.
Speaking as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the programme, Md. Mahbubul Alam, also vice chairman of the BFTI board of directors, said that Bangladesh has continued to grow at an average rate of more than 6.5 percent of GDP over the past decade.
Lauding the private sector's role in the country's economy, he said this sector has been playing a very positive and important leading role in post-independence Bangladesh.
"Creating a strong private sector has been the biggest achievement of the country in the last 50 years since Independence," he observed.
Based on policy support of the government, now the private sector has been in the driving seat of the economy, he added.
Presiding over the event, chief executive officer of BFTI and former senior secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Dr. Md Zafar Uddin said that BFTI is working for the development of human resources in the public sector and private sector by providing training.
The BFTI training program for the BEPZA officials will continue till October 19 which will focus on their capacity improvement on import and export business.
Some 24 officials of BEPZA participated in this training while director of BFTI Md Obaidul Azam delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.
