Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam shared the update during the weekly media briefing.
He explained that on December 5, 2024, Bangladesh’s High Commissioner in Malaysia met with Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in Kuala Lumpur to discuss the delayed migration of nearly 18,000 Bangladeshi workers.
During the meeting, the Minister proposed creating a Joint Technical Group consisting of representatives from the Malaysian Immigration Department and the Bangladesh High Commission to manage the phased entry of these workers.
Alam added that two subsequent meetings were held on December 31 and January 14 to verify a list of over 17,000 workers with Malaysian authorities, leading to the selection of 7,964 workers eligible for immediate travel.
Regarding the process for their travel, Alam confirmed that the Joint Technical Committee would finalize the procedures through ongoing discussions.
