Twenty five shops were gutted and 50 damaged in a fire at Mohiuddin Market in Madan upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out around 9:30 am from a cloth stall, according to locals, and quickly spread to adjacent shops due to the congested structure of the market.

Witnesses said they first noticed smoke rising from the shop before the flames intensified and engulfed nearby establishments.

Fire service officials and local residents worked for nearly an hour and a half to bring the blaze under control.

During the operation, local resident Chana Mia of Khantpur village sustained injuries while helping to extinguish the fire. He was taken to the Madan Upazila health Complex for treatment, reports BSS.

Md. Jamiyat Ali, Station Officer of Madan Fire Service and Civil Defense, said “The cause of the fire is under investigation. Initially, it is suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit. The full extent of the damage has not yet been determined, but fortunately, no casualties were reported,” he said.
