Police arrested 26 students on Wednesday following a protest at the Bangladesh Secretariat, where they admitted ties to the recently banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

A case was filed at Shahbagh Police Station, citing their defiance of police orders as they entered the secretariat. Alongside the 26 arrested, 60 to 70 unnamed individuals were also implicated in the case.

The arrests followed an earlier incident where police detained 54 students who had stormed the secretariat, demanding the cancellation of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination results. Of those detained, 28 were released while the remaining 26 were arrested due to their affiliations with the BCL, which was banned by executive order on October 23.

The arrested individuals include Md Zahirul Islam (20), Md Faisal Hasan (21), Md Raihan Hossain (21), and several others aged between 18 and 22.
