Dhaka, Sept 17 - BNP Secretray General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday alleged that the present government has divided the nation and the state craft through politicisation.
“If you go to the court, you won’t not get justice. If you go to law enforcers, you won’t get security there as first you will be asked whether you belong to BNP or Awami League. If you are with BNP, then you won’t get any cooperation. Rather, they will file a case against you,” he said.
Speaking at a memorial meeting on luminery lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar, he said three leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s Dhaka south city unit went to a police station to lodge a complaint as they came under attack while returning home at night, but they were implicated in a case.
“The government has divided the entire nation in the last 12/15 years. You won’t find any place where there is no division based on political identity,” Fakhrul said.
He mentioned that the committees of mosques, schools, madrasas, colleges, universities and other institutions are divided in the country. “This division will never help any nation move forward. Nation can be taken forward through unity which was done by President Ziaur Rahman In 1975,” the BNP leader said.
"I often say we’re going through a bad time. They (govt) are ruining everything by indulging in corruption, misdeeds and lies,” the BNP leader observed.

Presided over by Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain the discussion-cum doa meeting was also addressed by BNP standing committee member Selima Rahman, Gazi Mazharul Anwar's widow Zohra Gazi, BNP leaders Amanullah Aman, Abdus Salam, Film hero and Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Dal leader Ashrafuddin Ujjal, editor of GreenWatch Dhaka, Mostafa Kamal Majumder, BFUJ president M Abdullah, BNP leaders Fazlul Huq Milan, Zaker Hossain Rokan and Gazi Mazhar's son Sarfaraj Mehedy Upal.
Fakhrul said the political arena in Bangladesh has got spoiled while the political structure has collapsed for lack of a credible election and a truly representative parliament. “How can we get rid of it? That is the big question now.”
He called upon people from all walks of life to come forward to protect the country from ruination and create a congenial and democratic atmosphere for the future generation so that they can live in peace.
Recalling the contributions of Gazi Mazharul Anwar to the country and its cultural arena, Fakhrul described him as a lighthouse. “He was like a star to us. “We’re inspired by his songs, character and his works.”
Begum Selima Rahman eulogised the Gazi Mazharul Anwar for his life-long works that earned him all national civilian awards and said his lofty achievements are unmached.
Abdus Salam said that people from all strata of the society should join efforts to rescue the nation from the 'present ruinous state'. It's the duty of not only the politicians, he added.
Amanullah Aman made mention of the charismatic image of Gazi Mazharul Anwar among the people for his popular songs and lovable character. Gazi supported the concept of Bangladeshi Nationalism from the time Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman propagated it and was a great patriot. The people will achieve their cherished ideals by restoring of democracy through street movement, he said.
Ashrafuddin Ujjal narrated the life and works of Gazi Mazharul Anwar from his student days and termed his as a rate genius. Behind all his works was his patriotism and love for the motherland.
Mostafa Kamal Majumder pointed out that three songs of Gazi Mazharul Anwar featured among the 20 best Bangla songs of all time chosen by BBC Bangla service's listners in March 2006. His score was the highest. Another song in the list with no mention of a lyricist might also have been written by the great lyricist, he added.
BNP standing committee member Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, chairman of the foundation, highlighted the colorful life and works of late Gazi Mazharul Anwar who, he said, won 110 national and international prizes for his works. - GreenWatch News Desk with UNB
