Feni, Feb 6: Students and local residents partially demolished, vandalised, and set fire to the residences of two former MPs and the district Awami League office in Feni on Thursday.

The angry mob first targeted the house of former Feni-1 MP Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim and the residence of former Feni-3 MP Lt Gen (retd) Masud Chowdhury, before vandalising the district Awami League office on Station Road.

According to sources, the protesting students had announced their attack plans a day earlier through social media platforms. Following their announcement at 7pm on Thursday, a large group gathered at Feni’s Central Shaheed Minar and marched towards Nasim’s house, where they carried out vandalism. Later, the group moved towards the Awami League office, throwing bricks and causing further destruction. Local residents also reportedly joined the demonstrators in the attacks.

In a separate incident, protesters stormed the Sonagazi village home of Masud Uddin Chowdhury, a presidium member of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) and former MP for Feni-3. The house was vandalised and set on fire. While no residents were present at the time, the blaze destroyed all belongings inside.

Student leader Sohrab Hossain Shakil said, "As part of the Bulldozer Programme, Dhanmondi-32 has been demolished. Today’s programme was scheduled at 7pm as per the central decision. The anti-discrimination student movement, Revolutionary Student Society, and our injured brothers carried out the action together."

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Marmo Singh Tripura of Feni Model Police Station said that law enforcement quickly responded to reports of vandalism and attempted to bring the situation under control. - UNB
