"At BNP, we remain steadfast in our commitment to upholding democracy, accountability, the rule of law, good governance, justice, and humanity. Our vision is clear: Bangladesh’s political future must be shaped exclusively by its people," Fakhrul emphasized.
He made these remarks while attending an Iftar gathering hosted for foreign diplomats in Dhaka at The Westin Hotel on Thursday evening.
"We trust that our international allies will honor key global principles, including the non-interference in internal affairs, respect for sovereignty, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, which are essential for our collective development. We are eager to collaborate with our global partners to promote the progress of our region through democratic values and open trade, while fostering greater people-to-people exchanges in the future," he continued.
During his speech, Fakhrul reflected on the importance of unity and resilience, noting, "As we share this Iftar, we are reminded of the core values of justice, solidarity, and perseverance. The people of Bangladesh deserve a future that is free from fear, oppression, and political instability."
The BNP Secretary General was accompanied at the event by British High Commissioner Sarah Cook, former U.S. Ambassador John Danilowicz, Pakistani Ambassador Syed Ahmed Maruf, and Turkish Ambassador Ramis Sen. Additionally, key diplomats from the U.S., Germany, China, India, and several other countries, including Russia, Japan, the UAE, and many others, participated in the event.
Representatives from international organizations, including United Nations agencies, were also in attendance.
On behalf of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Fakhrul extended warm greetings to the diplomats present at the Iftar. Prior to the meal, he exchanged pleasantries with the attending foreign dignitaries.
The event was further graced by the presence of BNP’s senior leadership, including standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan, and others, as well as noted personalities such as Professor Mahbub Ullah, Shafiq Rehman, and retired Major General Moniruzzaman. Prominent editors, including Matiur Rahman of Prothom Alo and Mahfuz Anam of The Daily Star, were also in attendance.
Following Iftar and Maghrib prayers, the diplomats enjoyed a dinner together, marking a meaningful moment of shared cultural exchange.
