Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has urged all citizens to unite in building a just, equal, and corruption-free Bangladesh where tyranny can never rise again.
In a message marking the July Uprising Day, he said the historic movement reignited the people’s hope for national transformation and laid the foundation for a new era.
“July rekindled our hope — a hope for a just, equal, and corruption-free Bangladesh,” the Chief Adviser said. “The sacrifice of thousands has gifted us a rare opportunity for reform, and we must protect it at all costs.”
He warned that the defeated autocrats and their allies are still active and conspiring to derail the nation’s progress. “Let us rise above all divisions and stand united to defeat these threats. Together, we will build a Bangladesh where tyranny will never return.”
Reflecting on the events of one year ago, Prof Yunus described August 5 as an unforgettable day in Bangladesh’s history — the culmination of the July Uprising that liberated the country from decades of fascist rule.
He offered heartfelt congratulations to the people of Bangladesh, whose united struggle achieved this historic victory.
With deep reverence, he remembered the brave youth, workers, labourers, and professionals who lost their lives confronting fascist forces. “My profound respect goes to every martyr of the uprising. I honour with deep gratitude all those who were injured, permanently disabled, or lost their eyesight. The nation will forever remember their sacrifice,” he said.
Calling the July Uprising a collective outcry against 16 years of authoritarian rule, Prof Yunus said it was a movement to dismantle a system plagued by corruption, discrimination, and tyranny — and to restore democracy and power to the people.
He noted that since assuming office, the Interim Government has initiated extensive reforms across state institutions to fulfil the aspirations of the uprising.
“The trials related to the July killings are progressing swiftly. Steps have also been taken to honour the memory of the martyrs and rehabilitate the injured fighters,” he said.
To ensure a sustainable political future, he added, dialogue is ongoing with political parties and stakeholders to reform the political and electoral systems.
Prof Yunus reaffirmed the Interim Government’s commitment to returning power to the people through a peaceful, fair, and transparent election.
