The 4G-network of mobile phone operators remained suspended since Saturday

Madaripur, Sept 15 - Most areas in Sadar, Shibchar, Kalkini, Rajoir, and Dasar upazilas of Madaripur district have been without electricity since Friday night due to fault in power line amid torrential rains, causing suffering to people.

The 4G-network of mobile phone operators has remained suspended since Saturday and the presence of battery-run three-wheelers on roads is also so thin due to the disruption in power supply.

Locals said that though the rain and wind started Saturday morning, the power supply has been suspended since Friday night due to fault in supply line.

As of filing this report around 2pm on Sunday, power outages continue throughout the district.

Incessant rain has also caused poor presence of students in schools and colleges, while markets remain almost without buyers.

Mohammad Abbas Ali, a school teacher from Shibchar, said due to the rain, student attendance is very low. “We have been facing difficulties since yesterday (Saturday) due to the power outage. Our mobile phone batteries are almost dead."

According to the Shibchar upazila office of the Rural Electricity Board, power disruptions began early Saturday morning.

Problems with the main power line due to storms and rain have caused  power supply suspension. Workers have been working to restore the electricity since yesterday, they said.

Md Ali, an official from the Madaripur Rural Electricity Board, said the adverse weather has caused faults in the power lines. Their team is working to restore the power supply.-UNB
