Matarbari power plant will go for commercial electricity generation in December this year, said Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL) Managing Director Md Abul Kalam Azad.

Abul Kalam Azad revealed the information when Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister visited the power plant on Thursday (September 21).

This plant has 60 days of coal reserves for power generation. So, there will be no coal crisis, he said.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister said that a huge development is going on in Matarbari. Instructions have been given to complete the work of this project in time.

It is mentionable that under the Matarbari 1,600 MW coal-based power project by CPGCBL, a 14.3 km long, 250 metres wide and a depth of 18.5 metres artificial channel was excavated.
