Two day labourers were killed by lightning strike at Nagarouha village in Sirajganj's Ullapara upazila on Saturday evening.

The victims were identified as Ruhul Islam, 28, son of Rafiqul Islam, and Ashraf Ali, 40, son of Belal Hossain of Nagarouha village of Ullapara upazila.

Rakibul Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ullapara Model Police Station, said they were returning home in the evening after working in the field on Saturday.

On the way, the lightning struck them amid rainfall, leaving both of them injured, reports UNB.

The family members rescued them and took them to a local hospital where doctors declared both dead on arrival, added the OC.

Ullapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abu Saleh Mohammad Hasnat confirmed that the incident was reported to the district administration.

He noted that necessary measures will be taken to provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased labourers.
