Couple Dies in Electrocution Incident in Shariatpur

A man and his wife tragically died after being electrocuted at Baliakandi village in Jajira upazila, Shariatpur, on Saturday morning.


The victims, Idris Khan, 65, and his wife Shefali Begum, 60, were residents of the village. According to police, Idris Khan had recently set up an electric trap using a wire to protect his maize field from wild animals, particularly porcupines.

On Saturday morning, the couple went to the field around 8 a.m. without disconnecting the electric line. Idris Khan was electrocuted first and collapsed. In an attempt to save him, Shefali Begum was also electrocuted and died instantly.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Bridge South Police Station, Akram Hossain, confirmed the incident.
