Rajshahi recorded the country’s lowest temperature as the mercury dropped to 7 degrees Celsius at 6:00am on Tuesday (6 January), intensifying winter conditions across the district.
Although dense fog was absent, bone-chilling cold winds significantly increased the severity of the cold. On Monday, the minimum temperature stood at 10 degrees Celsius, while the maximum reached 19.5 degrees, leaving a narrow day-night gap of about 8.5 degrees.
Meteorologists said the sharp fall in the minimum temperature, combined with limited daytime warming, has worsened cold conditions. Despite sunrise at 6:47am, the sun remained obscured until nearly 10:00am.
The prolonged cold has slowed daily life across both urban and rural areas of the district. Morning humidity reached 100 percent, amplifying the cold sensation as icy winds swept through the region.
Day labourers and low-income workers are bearing the brunt of the cold spell, as outdoor work has become increasingly difficult amid the harsh weather conditions.
