Tk38.39 crore of Grameen Telecom's annual dividend transferred to Bangladesh Workers' Welfare Foundation

Dhaka, February 5: Labor and Employment Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain said that the Managing Director of Grameen Telecom has handed over a check of Tk 38 crore 39 lakh 49 thousand 770 at the rate of zero.5 percent of the company's annual dividend as per the Bangladesh Labor Act 2006 (Amended 2018). This money will be deposited in the fund of Bangladesh Workers' Welfare Foundation under the Ministry of Labor and Employment. This money will be spent on the socio-economic development of institutional and non-institutional workers and workers' families of all regions and levels of Bangladesh.

The advisor said at a press briefing at the Bangladesh Secretariat today that Section 236 of the Labor Act 2006 (Amended 2018) has made provision for recovery of money including fines if payment is not made on time. He said that the money from the Workers' Welfare Foundation Fund will be spent on grants for deceased workers, student scholarships and emergency treatment of workers.
