State-owned Biman Bangladesh Airlines reported an unaudited profit of Tk 9.37 billion for the 2024-25 fiscal year, marking a historic milestone in its 55-year history.
The airline described the figure as a “unique” achievement since its founding in 1972, attributing the success to efficient resource management, strategic improvements, and enhanced passenger services, while thanking customers for their continued support.
Biman’s previous record was Tk 4.4 billion in 2021-22. The airline began operations in 1972 with revenue of just Tk 19 million and has gradually evolved into a modern, competitive carrier. Revenue for 2024-25 reached Tk 116.31 billion, surpassing the Tk 100 billion mark achieved the previous year.
Over its history, Biman has recorded profits in 26 fiscal years. During 2024-25, it operated a fleet of 21 aircraft, 19 of which it owns outright, including four Boeing 787-8s and two fuel-efficient 787-9 Dreamliners. In-house maintenance capabilities helped reduce costs.
The airline carried 3.4 million passengers, transported 43,918 tonnes of cargo, and raised its cabin factor to 82%, a notable improvement from the previous year. January 2025 saw the highest ticket sales in its history, aided by faster baggage delivery, improved in-flight services, and modernised airport processes.
Looking ahead, Biman plans to expand routes, invest in digital service transformation, strengthen cargo operations, and maintain its ambition to be a leading South Asian carrier through world-class service, reliability, and safety, while remaining a symbol of national pride.
