Mother abandons 13-day-old newborn in Kalapara hospital

13-year old new-born abandoned at Kalapara Hospital on Sunday



Patuakhali: A mother ran away leaving a 13-day-old newborn in the hospital in Kalapara of Patuakhali. The incident took place at Kalapara 50-bed hospital around 11:30 pm on Saturday. Currently, the newborn is being supervised by resident medical officer Dr. JH Khan Lelin.

According to the hospital authorities, the mother came to the hospital with her newborn on Saturday evening and sat on bed number 08 of the infant ward. At eight o'clock in the night, she put the newborn to sleep. As she did not return until late at night, the nurses took the newborn kept it in residential medical officer Lelin's custody.

Dr. JH Khan Lelin said, the child is in my custody. As of Sunday afternoon, her mother had not been found. If a childless couple chooses to adopt, it will be legally adopted.

Ali Ahmed, OC of Kalapara Police Station said, if the mother of the newborn is not found, adoption will be done through a legal process. - Gofran Biswas Palash
